Baby Shower

One of Amanda's bridesmaids, Deborah, is pregnant and so Amanda wanted to give her a baby shower. She had never hosted a shower before, so I told her I would like to help her. Well, the shower was two weekends ago and was a great success. Amanda and I went with a theme of duckies -- even though Deb is sure it's going to be a girl. I think we learned with Kelly's shower that a little bit of pink goes a long way. So here is the cake that Amanda and I did and it looks pretty darn good, even if I do say so myself.

On the top layer of the cake you can see some of the M&M's we got. We thought it would be a nice touch for the shower and we also wanted to see what they actually looked like. They looked pretty good, but we did learn if we're going to get some for the wedding to be sure to order them early enough. The M&M's for the shower were supposed to be delivered three days before the shower, but were delayed a day because of "weather conditions". They do look cute, though, huh?

At a shower Amanda had recently attended she had played (and won) a game called, "poopy diaper". Evidently, you get some disposable diapers, put a candy bar in each diaper and then microwave them until the candy bar melts. You number each diaper and pass them around for people to try to guess the type of candy bar it is. They can look and smell, but not touch or taste. This was one of the most entertaining games I've witnessed in a long time. What do you think?
I'm sure next time Amanda wants to host a shower she'll do a great job all on her own.
For those inquiring minds that want to know, the M&M's said: DEB IS OUR/MOM 2 BE and LET'S SHOWER/DEB WITH GIFTS

Promotion

With the holidays and everything, Ken decided to have his promotion ceremony on January 14th. It was really nice and I was glad Stephen and I were able to attend. Ken had his dad go up with him and affix his sergeant's insignia to his uniform. The only problem was, Stephen was Air Force and their sergeant's insignia is upside down from the Army's. So, they all had a good laugh over that and it was corrected right away. Hopefully, if there is another promotion in the future I will get to do the honors (having never been in the military, I will have no problem asking what I should do).

New Years Eve

Well, with the grace of the Lord the house sold in Wisconsin. Steve and I are sure that's the only way the house would sell in the dead of winter in Wisconsin. The buyers wanted the closing date to be January 3rd, so that's how we spent our New Year's holiday. We went bowling with the church on New Year's Eve and had a great time of fellowship at Clark and Maggie's. We were also able to go to Discovery on Wednesday night and see everyone we have grown to love. It was amazing how some of the kids had changed in such a short period of time, especially Nick who had grown enough to pass up Stephen in stature.

Christmas 2007

So, once Amanda and I got home from California, it was nearly Christmas. We all had a great time at Ken's for Christmas. It was really fun to be the one sitting back and watching while dinner was being fixed. Ken and Amanda fixed a great dinner, but the best part was opening gifts. On Christmas Eve Amanda begged to open gifts, as that was her family's tradition, but Ken said, "No."

Come Christmas morning we all had a good time opening our gifts. Uncle Ken and Aunt Amanda were very thrilled with the gift they got from Christina. She is quite the claw machine champ and got this cute little penguin (along with a couple of other little animals) while we were in California and evidently she thought it would be a good gift for Uncle Ken and Aunt Amanda.

Best Laid Plans

When I first decided to start this blog it was right before Christmas and now, here it is almost Valentine's Day. I wanted to post at that time to let everyone know about Amanda and my road trip to California right before Christmas. We had a great trip and lots of fun -- even if it did rain a lot. Now I'll see if I can figure out how to add a photo.
Okay, I got my photo to post -- Yeah!!! This is Amanda with the girls in Cathy's kitchen. I'll post this for now and then try to do more later.
